Breast Cancer in Dogs Hits Home

I am sad to report, my very own dachshund may have breast cancer. She has a lump and the vet thinks it may be cancer. She was a rescue so she was late on getting spayed. Unfortunately, she had already had a litter before we adopted her. This of course, greatly increased her chance of getting diagnosed with mammary cancer.

Our precious Carmel is going to have surgery to remove the lump at which time it will be biopsied. Let’s all pray the tumor is benign. We do not want our precious puppy to suffer.

Update on Carmel

After having the tumor removed, Carmel is doing just fine. While we had originally planned on having the tumor biopsied, the vet advised against it. Carmel is an old dog and the vet thought we should wait to see if it grows back. If the growth comes back, then we will do something about it. Until then, we just hope Carmel is okay and we make everything nice for her.

Carmel is enjoying being back home and does not seem to be bothered by anything. Right now, it seems her cataracts are a bit of an issue. Again, the vet says it is not bad enough to do surgery yet and I trust my vet. She is very good and has taken care of all my dogs.
