The real Christmas trees look nice and they make the house smell oh so good during the holiday season. However, you need to be careful of those pines. Dogs can easily get hurt swallowing some pine. They look good, smell good, and lets face it dogs love to chew wood. Those things get trapped inside and can cause all kinds of problems in the area.

Tip to Keep Dogs and Cats Safe Around Trees

It all goes back to basic obedience. If your pets do not know how to behave, they then won’t behave around a tree. Start early telling them they can not get close to the tree. Let them know there are guidelines and they are not allowed to cross. When your dog starts sniffing around, tell them no. When your cat starts to stalk a Christmas ornament, squirt it with some water. This may mean working on it but it sure is worth it. I can leave my dogs and cats in a room with a Christmas tree and everything is just fine. My pets just don’t mess with it.

Keeping Dogs off the Tree

If you don’t think you have the time to train your dogs. Then consider buying a baby gate. Putting up a baby gate is a nice way to block off the bottom of the tree while the rest of the tree is still seen. You do have to keep the dogs away somehow and baby gates work wonders.
