Training Yourself to Train Your Pet

How to Teach Your Dog to Pee and Poo On Command

Everyone wants their dog to be housebroken. How do I housebreak my dog is probably the number 1 question I get asked. The truth is, I do this in two parts. I teach the dog to go outside AND I teach them to go on command. Like the guy in the video, I do not want to stand in the rain while my puppy decides to go to the bathroom. Therefore, I train my dogs to go on command.

How to Teach Your Dog to Pee and Poo on Command

This video is EXACTLY what I do to teach my puppies to go on command. Although he uses “Get Busy”, I use “Go”. Now, using the word “GO” is probably not the best idea for many people. If you say go in your daily life, then it can be confusing to your dog. The only reason my dogs use “GO” is because my first dog did and once you have a command it sticks. All my other dogs have overlapped so there has not been a chance to change the word. Get Busy is a better choice, but feel free to use what you like.

  1. Put your dog on a leash
  2. Start giving the command “Get Busy”, “Go”, “Do Your Business” etc
  3. Stop talking when your puppy is using the bathroom
  4. Praise your puppy AFTER they finish using the bathroom
