How to Prevent Hairballs in Your Cat

If you own a cat like me, you have probably wondered how to get rid of hairballs? I know my friends who own cats have been wondering the same thing. Hairballs are nasty to find and are even more irritating to hear (that awful retching sound your cat makes when coughing one up.) Since hairballs can actually be dangerous for your cat, you have to find some way to help your precious kitty.

After doing some research, I found some ways you can help your feline friends out. There are safe and effective methods to dramatically reduce the number of hairballs your friendly feline produces.

Cat Food for Hairballs

Some pet food formula’s actually help in the digestion of hairballs. So first thing you want to do is change your cat’s pet food formula. There are enzymes in certain cat food products which break down hairballs causing them to pass with ease.

Hairball Prevention Diet Aides

Also, you can look into some other great diet aides, which are readily available. These diet aides can act as lubricants, which lubricate your cat’s intestines causing the hairball to pass with ease. This will stop all the blockages and keeps them from coughing up hairballs. Some of these all-natural dietary aides are given in chewable tablets and are good for your cat.

Brush the Hairballs Away

Prevention is the key though; you want to be sure and brush your cat regularly. Cats groom all the time and this is usually the reason they get hairballs. Brushing them regularly gets rid of the excess hair and less hair means less hairballs. Your cat might not like it at first but cats brushed regularly get used to it fast and usually can’t live without it from there owner. They simply love it.

Supplements for a Healthy Cat

If your cat does not like to take the supplements, you can sneak into their food or treats. All pets love a good treat and cats are no different. You can get hairball prevention treats, just shake the box of treats and watch out for the stampede, cats will eat them up. If your cat will not take the hairball prevention supplements, remember you got the treats!

Your cat will always get hairballs; there is no way to totally get rid of them. But you can take measures to lower the occurrence of hairballs on the floor. It only takes a little work on your part and your cat will appreciate you for it.
