African Violets: Beauty and Ease

A great plant is the African violet. It does not need to be in direct sunlight to grow. They are low maintenance and can survive even with little light. You can either hang them from the ceiling or sit them on the floor.

When they are place in low light lighting the leaves turn a beautiful dark green, which is neat. When the plants get too much light, the leaves may turn yellow. When this happens, just dim the lights or partially block the light source and they will bounce back nicely.

Boston Fern: Giant Among Ferns

A lot of homeowners love the Boston Fern because they can grow to be giants. Put them on the porch/sunroom for best results and maximum growth.

Boston Ferns are known for their jagged leaves and deep colors. Any room would look great with a Boston fern in it. If you are planning to grow the plant indoors, keep an eye on the humidity during the winter months. Since they need the humidity, you will have to keep an eye on them. If they start shedding their leaves, the humidity is off.

Spider Plant: The Friendship Plant Worth Sharing

Another good choice is the Spider Plant. Spider plants are good for hanging from the ceiling, because their offshoots hang down.

You can cut off the offshoots and give to your neighbors or friends. Just cut it off, place in some water, and let to the roots sprout. After the roots grow a couple of inches, just pot it and watch it grow.

Christmas Cactus: Colors Galore

Have to have a cactus for the house? The Christmas cactus is a good choice. It blooms in fantastic colors of white, yellow, fuchsia, and pink. The cactus lives a very long time and if you take good care of it, you can pass it down to your children’s children.

To make the Christmas Cactus bloom at Christmas, you will have to pay them extra attention.

You’re probably asking yourself, will the Christmas cactus hurt my cat? Don’t all cacti hurt cats? The answer is no. The Christmas Cactus is safe for your pets and your kids.
