Many dog owners find that their perfect puppy comes home and turns into a not so perfect dog. Then, the new dog wears off and they are stuck with a dog that may not be everything they hoped for.  So they are left searching for obedience training. Anything that will get their dog behaving like a part of the family.

Sit Means Sit

This is a series of dog training videos that teaches your dog to go anywhere.  While, it ranks on the higher end at close to $200 , testimonials say that it really works. They use remote collars to train the dogs.

Remote collars aka shock collars use electrical shocks to give correction. They work for some people and not for other. Generally, I do not recommend this treatment as a way but it works for some people.

Bark Busters

The ASPCA gave Bark Busters the “Best of the Best Award” for global dog training. It has franchise opportunities, videos, books and home training. You can read testimonials.

Bark Busters will need to come out to your home to be effective. This means you will have to find one in your neighborhood but that is easily done with a simple zip code search.

Techniques include saying “Bah” while throwing a chain or a can near (not at) the dog. This tends to frighten the dog.   As a guide dog trainer I have used similar less scary techniques and found them effective.

Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar’s Way to Transform Your Dog

This book from the Dog Whisperer helps you become the pack leader in your house. In this book, Caesar helps you identify the problem behavior and correct it according to dog society. In most cases, this means retraining the human.

My personal training techniques mimics this way the best. However, I am not sure how effective a book can be. Although, I do recommend education because you must start somewhere and this may be what you need to be getting training.

Amazon has this book listed at $13.95 but you can find it lower if you really look.

Dog Training 101

This book has everything you need to know about dogs. It goes into where you can safely take your dogs and where you can get doggy certificates. If you got a dog the is AKC certified it talks about that too. It really is a dog training 101.

Anyone wishing to learn the basics of AKC needs to pick up this book as it will explain the ins and outs of AKC. The guide will get you on the right track to getting your foot in the door and the AKC approved equipment.

Amazon list the book at $20.99.
